Welcome to my dedicated Snow-Camp fundraising page for Rome To Home!
Starting 25th August 2017, I'm setting out on a 1250 mile self-supported running adventure from Rome To Home, starting at the Colosseum and finishing 65 later at the London Eye.
Why? Well some of you will know that I've had my own battles with Bipolar Disorder over recent years which form the core reasons for taking on the adventure. However there's no way I'd be able to take on the adventure if it wasn't for the support of Snow-Camp - giving me the time, space & support I needed when managing the condition over the past 5 years.
As such, I'm dedicating the Alps stage to Snow-Camp (Aosta to Martigny via the Great St Bernard Pass) with the goal of raising £2,000 to cover the cost of one inner-city young person to be given the opportunity I was lucky enough to receive as a child - to access the mountains and lifestyle we all love as well as benefiting from Snow-Camp's life-changing year-long journey of programmes.
My aims with Rome To Home are:
1) To share my story - from my full blown manic episode in Italy in 2012 and the crippling depression that followed, to what it’s taken to get back to the positive place you find me in today. By doing so I hope to play my part in normalising the conversation surrounding mental health issues, to give hope to others suffering out there, to thank all the incredible people who have supported me over the past 5 years and ultimately to encourage others (particularly guys) to speak up when they’re struggling the most.
2) To raise £12,000 and a ton of awareness for CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably) and £2,000 for Snow-Camp.
3) To take on an amazing adventure challenge – to push my boundaries, test my limits, self-medicate (channeling my energy in to this positive external challenge) and perhaps inspire others to take on an adventure of their own.
Your kind & generous donations towards my efforts when I cross the Alps will mean more to me than you realise. It's been a privilege to have been part of the Snow-Camp team for over 5 years and to see the impact the charity has on those we support. This £2000 really will change the life of one inner-city young person.
On behalf of myself and the young person you're supporting, thank you for anything you can give and for joining me for the adventure.
